MANILA, Philippines --Matt Bonner of the San Antonio Spurs is flying to Manila this weekend for the NBA Fit and NBA Cares programs.
"The Red Rocket, Matt Bonner of the San Antonio Spurs and NBA Champion will be visiting our shores for #NBACares & #NBAFITPH," said NBA Asia country manager Carlo Singson on his Twitter account on Wednesday.
Bonner will attend an NBA Cares, a social arm of NBA, event, which is being done in partnership with Sun Life Financial, tipping off at the Manila Boys Town Complex on Friday where he will interact with orphans and homeless children and teenagers.
Known as the "Red Mamba" for his red hair and sweet shooting, Bonner will be part of the NBA Fit Phl this weekend at the Mall of Asia complex in Pasay City.
Bonner, who have won a championship with the Spurs in 2007 and was the league's three-point field goal percentage leader two years ago, is one of many NBA players that has visited the country, among them Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, James Harden and Eric Gordon.
More NBA players are set to visit the country in the next few months as former NBA MVP Derrick Rose thanks to adidas and the whole Indiana Pacers and Houston Rockets teams in the NBA pre-season game set Oct. 10 at the MOA Arena.
There were reports Gatorade is flying in no less than Michael Jordan, considered the greatest basketball player of all time, himself, later this year or early next year.
