MANILA, Philippines -The UE Red Warriors are hit hard in the middle of their campaign after the UAAP board suspended key players Charles Mammie and Lord Casajeros.
UAAP commissioner held a press conference Wednesday to discuss in detail the suspension of the mentioned players.
"Charles Mammie was already suspended one game so he already had two unsportsmanlike fouls assessed on him. His third was done last game when he stuck his foot in the landing area of the shooter. It was not called but after reviewing the play, I believe that it was an unsportsmanlike foul," said Loyzaga.
Mammie’s act, Loyzaga said, netted him a two-game suspension.
"That was his third offense and based on the UAAP rules, the first will be a warning, [the] second a one game suspension and [the] third offense two games suspension," he added.
Loyzaga said he is open to an appeal by UE, adding he is open to discuss the issue with the team’s officials.
"I'm welcome to meeting them. If they don’t want my decision, it's okay and if they want to make an appeal or want us to reconsider our decision, it is up to them," he said.
"I decided on what I think is right and followed the rules and I stand by my decision," he added.
Casajeros and La Salle’s Thomas Torres are also suspended for one game each for committing two unsportsmanlike fouls this season.
