NU rips rivals on two fronts

MANILA, Philippines - National University trounced its rivals in the seniors and juniors sides while Diliman Computer Technology Institute stunned St. Benilde in the 11th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament at the San Beda gym recently. 

The Bulldogs, led by Ralph Napa and Alfredo Aroga, clobbered the UP Maroons, 87-63, in Group A of seniors play while the Bullpups rode on the hot hands of Jordan Sta. Ana to blast the San Sebastian Staglets, 83-60, in Group A of the juniors division.

The DCTI Senators, on the other hand, drew big baskets from Mark Yaon as they shocked the St. Benilde Blazers, 65-51, in Group A of another seniors contest.

Napa fired a game-high 16 points while Aroga had 11 markers for the Bulldogs, who improved to 3-1.

The Bulldogs moved behind the University of Perpetual Help Altas (3-0), the San Beda Red Lions (4-1) and the La Salle Green Archers (3-1).

Sta. Ana shot 26 points for the Bullpups, marked by eight triples, as NU notched its third win in four starts.

Yaon tallied 24 points, including eight treys, as the Senators picked up their second win in five matches in Group A.

Meanwhile, the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs scored their first win in four games as they beat the Malayan High School side, 64-45.
