MANILA, Philippines -- The UAAP technical commitee on Saturday junked the petition of Adamson University to have a replay of its game against De La Salle University.
The Soaring Falcons filed a protest after referee Francisco Olivar made a judgement call in the dying minutes of the game that "affected" the result of the match last Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Olivar slapped an unsportsmanlike foul on Adamson's Gian Abrigo while defending La Salle's Norbert Torres away from the inbound play with 15 seconds left.
Commissioner Chito Loyzaga decided to suspend Olivar for three games but UAAP Secretary and Treasurer Malou Isip announced that it was extended for six games.
“Mr. Olivar is a qualified and experienced referee, who officiates both local and international games. Unfortunately, at the Adamson/De La Salle game, he made an untimely decision to call a foul in the last 15 seconds of the game. The call resulted in an advantage to La Salle, which eventually won the game,†said Loyzaga in the memo issued yesterday.
Isip also delivered the decision of the technical committee that no replay of the game will be played.
"It was not technical, it was a judgement call of Mr. Olivar," said Isip to the UAAP press corps.
Isip added that they are satisfied with the decision of the technical commitee.
