Young Turk tops PCSO maiden race at MetroTurf

MANILA, Philippines - Young Turk unleashed a strong finishing kick to beat Up and Away and capture the PCSO two-year-old Special Maiden Race at the MetroTurf in Malvar, Batangas last Saturday.

The two-year-old colt by Tempestous Wind out Special Edition hounded the quick-starting Up and Away majority of the way before storming ahead in the last 200 meters to clinch the win worth P600,000 for former Rep. Jeci Lapus.

Ably ridden by ace jock Jonathan Hernandez, Young Turk, who also topped the recent Sweepstakes trial, also at MetroTurf, clocked 1:10.8 over the 1,200-meter race with clips of 23-22-25.

Up and Away settled for the P225,000 runner-up prize while Mona’s Art  placed third and took P125,000 in the centerpiece race sponsored by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

Move On came in fourth followed by Asikaso and Willingandable in that order.

“We would like to thank the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office for their huge support in the local horseracing industry. The Metro Manila Turf Club takes pride in hosting such a big event that is keenly awaited by the racing aficionados,” said Atty. Alex Carandang, vice president of Metro Manila Turf Club Inc.

Lapus personally received the winning trophy from the top PCSO officials during awards rites.
