Purisima heads guests in DSAS opening rites

MANILA, Philippines - Director General Alan Purisima, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), will grace the opening ceremony of the 21st Defense & Sporting Arms Show (DSAS) Part 1 on July 18 at Megatrade Halls 1, 2 and 3, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

Accompanied by top PNP officials, Purisima will be welcomed by the Association of Firearms and Ammunition Dealers (AFAD) led by its president, world shooting champion Jethro Dionisio, when the country’s longest running gun show opens its doors to thousands of gun aficionados in the country.

The PNP has been a traditional partner of AFAD, event organizer of DSAS, in promoting responsible gun ownership.

During the five-day DSAS event, which ends July 22, the A2S5 Coalition led by Atty. Judo Bonifacio will hold a free lecture on the new gun law (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), particularly on the issues of gun registration and licensing.

Also on tap are free seminars on gun safety and responsible gun owners with discussions on the PNP’s “Oplan Katok” or house-to-house campaign aimed at reminding owners of firearms with expired license to renew their license.

AFAD will also honor the Filipino contingent that won medals and honors during the 2013 Australasia competition in Rotorua, New Zealand last March during the opening rites.

They include Dionisio, champion – overall Individual (standard division); Janette Gonzaga, champion – lady category (SD); Daniel James Jacinto, champion – junior category (SD); Jeufro Emil Lejano, champion – overall Individual (production division); Diomari Ivan Tayag, champion – junior category (PD); and Grace Tamayo, champion – lady category (PD).
