MANILA, Philippines - Abegail Arevalo wavered coming home and faltered with a two-over 73, settling for the No. 3 spot in the knockout phase of the Future Champions Golf World Match Play at the St. Mark’s Golf Club in San Marcos, California Friday.
Arevalo, one of the new young members of Team ICTSI, hit three birdies against five bogeys, including two on the last three holes to finish the 18-hole stroke play elims with a 36-37 card at the par-71 layout.
The 14-year-old La Salle-Zobel student ended up tied with Alyaa Abdulghanny but wound up at No. 3 with Thai bet Pitsinee Winyarat taking the top spot with a one-over 72.
Sofia Chabon, the other ICTSI-backed bet, struggled with a 77 for joint fifth with Cara Barker with Wave Whiston taking the No. 4 spot with a 74.
Arevalo faces No. 14 Gabriella Anastasi in the knockout stage while Chabon squares off with No. 11 Jamie Binns.
