MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Swim League yesterday announced the appointment of former Manila Councilor, Dr. Susana Ong Berino, as PSL director for the National Capital Region.

PSL president Susan Papa announced the appointment during the awarding ceremonies of the 45th leg of the PSL Swim Series, dubbed First Flag Officer in Command swim meet, at the Naval station swimming pool inside Fort Bonifacio.

Berino, who comes from a clan of former national swimmers, is tasked to consolidate the PSL swimming program for clubs, schools and colleges in the NCR.

“I’m very excited to be the NCR director and will surely align my projects with the mission and vision of the Philippine Swimming League,” said Berino, who announced the staging of her first tournament, Pasiklaban, in July at the Marikina Sports Complex.

NCR swimmers, led by Paula Ann Regine Cayanan, dominated the age group competition which featured children of Fleet Marine officers.

Cayanan, 14, clocked 26.98 seconds, a little below the Youth Olympic Games qualifying mark, in the 50m freestyle. She also ruled the 50 m butterfly in 30 seconds.

Sean Terence Zamora, 12, timed 31.24 seconds to rule the 50m backstroke while Mc Tracy Alindogan, also 12, took the 50m butterfly gold in 28.27 seconds.

Jason Ryan Difuntorum, 15, was the 50m butterfly champion in 27 seconds.
