MANILA, Philippines - Neil Tangalin won the boys’ 18 and 16-under class of 2013 HEAD Junior Satellite Circuit national tennis age-group tournament’s 10th leg at the Olongapo tennis courts in Olongapo recently.
Tangalin defeated Paolo Baran, 6-3, 6-4, to cop the boys’ 18-under trophy.
He also beat John Sanga, 6-0, 6-1, to win the boys’ 16-under title of the annual tennis national circuit supported by Smart Sports, Chris Sports, Meralco, Maynilad, Toalson and HEAD.
Third seed Erika Manduriao defeated Andrea Nicole Amistad, 6-4, 6-3, to win the girls’ 18-under crown, but Amistad won the girls’ 16-under title over Maria Dominique Ong, 6-1, 6-3.
In other results, Melanie Faye Dizon secured the girls’ 14-under class trophy, outclassing Alexandra Eala, 6-0, 6-0, and Michael Francis Eala outplayed Marraphael Teng, 6-0, 6-4, to capture the boys’ 14-under title.
In the 12-under class, Alexandra Eala outlasted Mia So, 6-0, 6-2, for the girls’ diadem while Jed Justin Labasano whipped Wilfredo Bentillo in the boys’ finals, 6-3, 7-5.
Meanwhile, the Manila leg, slated at the Meralco tennis courts on Ortigas this week, has drawn 300 entries nationwide.
At stake are ranking points from the sanctioning body Philippine Tennis Association.
