NAMSSA holds PNG motorcycle races

MANILA, Philippines - The National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA) is holding the motocross event for the POC-PSC National Games on Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Speedworld MX Circuit in SM Bicutan, Parañaque.

Official practice sessions are set on Friday from 12 noon to 3 p.m. to make way for the finishing touches to the prescribed track repairs to render the circuit safe and ready for the official motos on Saturday.

Sponsors of the event are Otto Shoes, Repsol, SM Bicutan and Monark CAT which provided the state-of-the-art heavy equipment for the track repairs.

The event will also serve as the final tune-up race for the Philippine motocross team that will compete in the second leg of the FIM Asia Motocross Supercross Championship set June 5-9 in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia.

“We are happy with the accomplishments of the NAMSSA and Philippine motorcycle sports in international events,” said PSC chairman Ricardo Garcia. “In recent years, a number of NAMSSA athletes have placed the Philippines in the world map of motorcycle sports by winning titles in international motorcycle competitions.”

“NAMSSA’s fruitful campaigns in international events may be attributed to their National Development Programs for road racing and motocross,” said PSC Commissioner Jolly Gomez in reference to NAMSSA’s grassroots programs for the on and off road motorcycle sports disciplines.

“The presence of FIM Asia’s headquarters in the Philippines gives us a better reason to prove ourselves in the different continental championships being disputed by motorcycle athletes from our union’s 26-country member national motorcycling federations,” said concurrent FIM Asia and NAMSSA President Macky Carapiet. “As such, our 20-man national motocross contingent is setting its sights on the podium and the gold in the FIM Asia Motocross Championship in Kuala Terengganu next weekend,” he added.
