MANILA, Philippines – Stallion Sta. Lucia was still merciless despite the absence of its top striker Rufo Sanchez in taking down Phil. Air Force, 6-0, on Thursday night in the United Football League action at the Emperador Stadium in McKinley Hill.
The Stallions, who played without the suspended Sanchez due to yellow card limit, drew fine performances from the rest of the team led by De La Salle standout Nathan Alquiros.
Alquiros, who came in at the start of the second half, was one of the two Stallions who fired a brace in the one-sided match.
The Stallions also drew a brace from Alquiros’ fellow substitute Matthias Bonhevi while another sub Hector Zaghi and Won Hyung Lee scored one goal each to round up the scoring.
The win enabled Stallion to maintain a five-point distance between them and Global for the top spot in the league table.
The Stallions hiked their point total to 39 with their 13th win in 14 matches while the Airmen was stuck near the cellar with only six points on two wins against 12 losses.
The Airmen were still in the match after only allowing the Stallions to just one goal in the opening half courtesy of Lee. Things, however, turned from worse to worst when the league leader started to impose its game that resulted in a five-goal rampage in the second half starting off with Bonhevi finding the back of the net just two minutes past the halftime mark.
