MANILA, Philippines - The PBA–Victor Ming Ramos Youth Cup Badminton Championships 2013 unwraps today with a banner field of 620 players from 54 teams vying for top honors at the PSC Badminton Hall at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Malvinne Alcala, who has dominated the sport the last few years, and prodigy Mark Shelley Alcala, 14, head the big field that also includes members of the national junior team.
Players from Pangasinan (Luzon), Bacolod (Visayas) and Kidapawan (Mindanao) have also signed up for the five-day tournament, an annual event put up by Philippine Badminton Association honorary chair and former First Lady Amelita “Ming†Ramos featuring the country’s leading junior players and rising stars.
Events on tap are the Under-19, Under-17, Under-15, Under-13 and Under-11 in boys’ and girls’ singles, doubles and mixed doubles with Victor, exclusively distributed by PCOME Industrial Sales Inc. in the country, as the PBA’s official equipment sponsor.
Mrs. Ramos will grace today’s opening rites. Others invited to the ceremony are PBA president and Vice President Jejomar Binay, PBA chair Manny V. Pangilinan, PBA sec-gen and Rep. Albee Benitez and Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia.
