Mammie dominates in UE’s 97-66 pounding of EAC

MANILA, Philippines – University of the East bounced back from a two-game skid, walloping a listless Emilio Aguinaldo College side, 97-66, in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan Friday.

Rookie Charles Mammie churned out a dominating double-double performance, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds in just 21 minutes of play.

"We just focused and had the right mindset going into the game, thanks to coach Boycie," said the 21 year-old Mammie.

UE at one point held a 33-point lead in the final quarter, with Mammie’s thunderous slam making it 93-60 in favor of the Warriors with 3:47 remaining.

"I told the boys that despite the big lead, we have to play within the system because not every game will be this easy," said UE coach Boycie Zamar.

Key players J.R. Sumido and Roi Sumang, playing limited minutes, chipped in 15 and 11 points, respectively, for the Recto-based squad.

"Galing kami sa talo kaya ginawa namin yung best namin para makabawi kami (We just came from a loss so we did our best to bounce back)," said the graduating Sumido.

The Warriors had a huge advantage in the rebounding and assist departments, 59-43 and 24-12, respectively.

With the win, UE now sports a 2-2 slate while EAC remains winless in three outings.
