MANILA, Philippines - Antonio Albor took over in the second half goal as Air Force FC edged Army FC, 1-0, in a duel of struggling teams in the First Division of the United Football League at the McKinley Hill grounds in Taguig City Saturday night.
With the match appeared headed to a scoreless draw after several failed bids, Albor scored on the 74th, lifting the Airmen to what was only their second after nine straight losses. They had six match points, two ahead of Army, which dropped to last place with only four points on a win and a draw against 10 setbacks.
The Airmen ended their nine-game slide with a shock 2-0 win over Nomads last April 18, also at the McKinley Hill.
In Second Division action, Team Socceroo leaned on Korean striker Lee Joeng Mu’s brace to beat Union Internacional Manila, 3-0, and extend its amazing streak to 10 wins.
Team Socceroo thus pulled away with 30 points, 12 points clear of Union, which got stranded at No. 2 with 18 points on five wins and three standoffs and two losses.
Another Korean, Lee Jeong Woo, opened it up for the Socceroos with a 39th minute rocket before Lee sealed it with two goals in a seven-minute stretch.
