MANILA, Philippines - Alabang outpointed Sta. Elena in a thrilling down-to-the-wire battle for the Class A crown as it completed a two-division romp while finishing third in the other in an explosive start of the WGAP Circuit at the posh Alabang Golf and Country Club in Muntinlupa recently.
Marilyn Reyes churned out a 38-point output under the Modified Stableford scoring system while Christine Naidoo, Joan Morales and Rita Horan chipped in 36, 34 and 32 points, respectively, as the hosts nipped the Sta. Elena side, 140-139, to rule the premier class.
Sta. Elena drew 37s from Carina Ricamonte and Amy Ward while Rio Co and Elvira Liboro added 34 and 31 points, respectively, in the tournament organized by Women’s Golf Association of the Phils.
Tagaytay Highlands, which posted a record sweep of the WGAP Circuit and the WGAP Cup last year, placed third with a 135, edging Aguinaldo in the countback behind Marvi Monsalve’s 36, Virginia Bote and Hee Kyung Jung’s similar 34s and Maripaz Domingo’s 31.
Arvi Lobangco of Aguinaldo took the Class A individual crown with 40 points.
Alabang, led by Greely Oposa and Vids Torralba’s identical 41 points, also took the Class B crown, this time in emphatic fashion as it routed Sta. Elena, 153-135, while Villamor scored a 131 to finish third in the kickoff leg of the eight-stage circuit featuring the leading lady golfers from the country’s top clubs.
Divina Carlota Nemec of Sta. Elena copped the individual crown with 40 points.?Tagaytay Highlands, with Marissa Vergara firing 38 points, Erlinda Gamut shooting a 35, and Margaret Tan and Betsy Tuason adding 33 and 32, respectively, pocketed the Class C title with a 138, foiling Forest Hills, which had a 134, while Alabang came in third with a 131, nipping Aguinaldo in the countback.?Hazel Gabud, also of Aguinaldo, won the individual crown with 39 points.?
