PSA to name young tankers top HS athletes

MANILA, Philippines - Recognizing the significant role the youth plays in the country’s sports development program, two promising student-athletes are among those to be bestowed with a special award during the Milo-PSA Annual Awards Night on Saturday at the grand ballroom of the Manila Hotel.

To be conferred with the Milo Junior Athletes of the Year plum are multi-gold swimmers Axel Toni Ngui and Kirsten Chloe Daos.

In a show of force, Ngui and Daos bagged seven and six gold medals, respectively, in last year’s staging of the Palarong Pambansa and the Batang Pinoy National Finals.

The country’s oldest media organization headed by president Rey Bancod of Tempo is handing out the award side by side with Milo, a long-time supporter of youth sports program in the country, during the two-hour special rites presented by San Miguel Corp., LBC, Smart, Globalport 900, the Philippine Basketball Association, Sen. Chiz Escudero, SM Prime Holdings, Philippine Sports Commission, Rain or Shine, ICTSI and Philippine Golf Tour and Meralco.

Ngui emerged as the Most Outstanding Athlete of the Palarong Pambansa as the 18-year-old Ateneo student who dreams of becoming a doctor someday, ruled the pool of the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen, Pangasinan in dominant fashion.
