MANILA, Philippines - The Kopiko Astig 3-in-One Supercross Series 2013 will be held in Bais, Negros Oriental next weekend with a tougher track and a bigger field vying for a total purse of P500,000.
After the big success of the opening weekend of races in Cebu last January, the number of entries for the second leg has ballooned with the track set to be completed tomorrow in time for the practice rounds set Thursday and Friday.
“With one week to go, we already have 150 riders and 60 teams signed up,†said Jake Alcordo, operations manager of series organizer Man and Machine Racing Promotions. “That’s already a significant increase from the 139 participants we had in Cebu. Some of the country’s elite riders still have not formally registered, so we’re expecting at least another 10 entries and five teams.â€
The first heats of all 15 categories will be held on Saturday with the second heats and awarding ceremony on Sunday. Each track in the monthly series will be designed differently and have its own unique challenges.
For Bais, some of the jumps are more tightly packed, providing a bigger challenge to the riders.
Also up for grabs is the Rider of the Year award.
After the appearance of a pro team and world No. 6 rider Nikolaj Larsen from Denmark in Cebu, more European riders have inquired about competing against Filipino internationalists like Glenn Aguilar, Jovie Saulog and Jonjon Adlawan.
