Aguilars lead cast in Honda m’cross

MANILA, Philippines - Action in the 2013 Honda Motocross Series resumes on March 3 and 10 and April 7 and 28 with the father-and-son tandem of Glen and Mclean Aguilar out to sustain their big start in the event’s kickoff leg in Taytay last Sunday.

The Aguilars led the winners in the opening leg at the Motocross Messiah Fairgrounds in Club Manila East, Taytay, Rizal with the elder Aguilar topping the Pro Open Production category.

Mclean, 15, won the Kids Senior division.

In all, 11 categories are at stake in the five-leg series presented by Xtreme Adrenaline Sports Entertainment Co (XASEC) and Honda Philippines, according to race director Samuel Mark Tamayo, who appeared at the PSA Forum yesterday together with Honda Philippines advertising supervisor Lloyd Garces.

The overall champion in the Pro Open and Honda One Make Race Open Underbone will receive a brand-new Honda XRM, cash, and trophy.

La Union native Jacob Orbe, meanwhile, beat out the young Aguilar in the Pro-Lites division while Bryang Villaroman ruled both the Open Underbone and Local Enduro.

Other first leg winners include Christian Ramento (Beginners Open Pro), Hansel John Almocena (All Rizal Underbone), Arnel Lacnit (Veterans Open Production), Ompong Gabriel (Kids Junior), Jerry Beech (Underbone Semis Stock), and Jay Lacnit (Executive Open Production).

Over a hundred participants saw action in the inaugural leg, according to Tamayo, who opened the event with a short testimony on how great his passion for the sport and his heart in serving motocross riders through God.

Tamayo, a former pro rider, got involved once in a major vehicular accident that resulted in the death of his father and almost cost him his life.

“That’s why the sport has been very close to my heart that I decided to use my talent and connection to teach and serve the motocross industry in the country,” he said in the session presented by Shakey’s and the Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corporation.
