50th southern ladies Superal seeks title repeat

Princess Superal

MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal sets out for the Southern Ladies golf tournament today, hopeful of her title retention bid but wary of the field in the golden staging of the event at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro.

Former Mayor and Gov. Constantino Jaraula, Pueblo Golf chairman Manuel Roa and Pueblo Ladies Chapter president Anna Roa will hit the ceremonial drive to kick off the 54-hole championship which features the leading players and rising stars in the ranks.

“I feel good and my ball striking is quite okay. But I need to polish my putting to contend again,” said Superal, who nipped Sunshine Baraquiel in sudden death to capture last year’s crown at the Cebu Country Club.

The top ICTSI-The Country Club sees another down-to-the-wire battle against the leading players from the country’s top clubs but remains confident of her chances owing to her form and confidence.

Keen competition is indeed expected in the 54-hole tournament, organized and conducted by the National Golf of the Philippines, which also stakes a brand new Toyota Vios and Mizuno Efil golf set as hole-in-one prizes.  Also supporting the event are the Philippine Sports Commission, WWWExpress, Security Bank, Hans Brumann Jeweler, DPC Yellow Pages, St. Luke’s Medical Center and Leisure and Resorts World Corp.

Out to foil Superal’s back-to-back title bid are ICTSI teammates Abby Arevalo and Sofia Chabon along with club bets Anna Roa, Teri Solitaria and jungolfers Marvi Monsalve and Daniella Uy.

Del Monte is also fielding in a crack squad composed of Apple Fudolin, Eva Miñoza, Kristine Leonen, Rainstar Roque and Pamela Mariano along with Southwoods’ Annika Cedo, Navy’s Harmie Constantino and Orchard’s Medy Agustin.

The individual championship will be held under the Molave scoring system while the team event, a four-to-play, three-to-count tournament, and the seniors divisions will use the Stableford system (net of handicap).

Others seeing action are the top bets from Aguinaldo, Cebu Country Club, Davao, Forest Hills, Phil Navy, Riviera and Valley.
