MANILA, Philippines - La Salle scored an important 2-0 win over National U Thursday to strengthen its bid for a final slot in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s football at the Erenchun field inside the Ateneo campus.
Midfielder Federico Rabaya bombarded NU’s porous defense with two goals in the fifth and 52nd minute, while the rest of the Green Archers played tremendous defense to control the game en route to 21 points on seven wins and three losses for solo third place.
Despite the victory, long time La Salle mentor Hans Smit remained disappointed with the team’s performance particularly the inconsistencies inside the field in terms of offense and defense.
“This is the lousiest game we ever played this season,†said Smit. “I appreciated NU’s effort in this game though. If we keep playing like this, we’re not going to win the title, so we have to work harder as a team.â€
Meanwhile, host Ateneo and Far Eastern U played to a 1-1 draw in the last game that kept Ateneo and FEU in a 1 to 2 race in the team standings.
