MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle University-Dasmariñas made six of eight charities in the final minute as it pulled off a 114-111 triple overtime victory over PATTS College of Aeronautics in a fight-marred contest in the National Capital Region Athletic Association at the Ugnayang La Salle gym in Dasmariñas, Cavite yesterday.
Jeff Acain led La Salle with 33 points but was thrown out with two other players in the closing minute of second overtime for his involvement in a bench-clearing incident in the cagefest backed by Mikasa and Molten Balls.
Without Acain, the Patriots leaned on Harold Vinluan’s free throw to force the last overtime at 109.
The Patriots then scored the first three points in the third extension on a split by Clifford Castro and two charities by Vinluan with 1:12 remaining.
After Sea Horses’ Dennis Limin drove in for a shot, Carlos Tabaquero hit two more charities to seal it for the Patriots.
It was La Salle-Dasmariñas’ third win in five games as they stayed in contention for one of five seats in the wildcard semifinal round.
The Olivarez College Sea Lions (2-1), with Richard Singh and Marvin Bustos firing 15 points each, earlier won over the Philippine School of Business Administration Jaguars, 114-55.
