MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle Zobel held off Miriam College-A, 39-33, to retain the 13-under crown in the Women’s Basketball League at the Jacinto Tiu Competition Court in Xavier School, San Juan recently.
Bernice Marie Therese Paraiso scored seven of her game-high 13 points in the fourth quarter while Jel Alliah Jajurie added eight markers to power La Salle to victory.
Hannah Madamba led Miriam with 14 points.
Meanwhile, the other Zobel team trounced their sister school La Salle College-Antipolo, 61-38, to claim the 17-under crown in the competitive category. Kathleen Therese Nuñez fired 24 points and went on to bag the MVP award.
In the 17-under developmental category, St. James Academy of Malabon, with Genna Cruz scoring nine points, defeated Assumption College-Antipolo, 38-17, to clinch the title.
In the college division, Philippine Women’s University nipped University of Santo Tomas, 46-45, to annex the crown with Nikka Andrea Tupaz leading the way with 19 points and winning the MVP trophy.
Assumption Antipolo finished third in the elementary category while Miriam College wound up second runner-up in the 17-under competitive division.
Jose Abad Santos Memorial School and University of the Philippines also placed third in the 17-under developmental and college categories, respectively.
St. Pedro Poveda College, St. James Academy of Malabon, and La Salle College Antipolo in the 13-under, 17-under developmental and 17-under competitive categories took the sportsmanship awards.
Organized by the BEST Center, the WBL has helped girls learn the fundamentals of the game of basketball and develop character and values such as discipline, sportsmanship, and camaraderie through their interaction with coaches, instructors, classmates, and peers since 1987.
