MANILA, Philippines - Lourdes School humbled Ateneo A, 72-70, to move to solo second in the Contender division of the Energen Mini-Youth Metro Invitationals 2012 at the Blue Eagles Gym over the weekend.
It was the third win in four games for Lourdes as it inched closer to La Salle Greenhills, which swept its first six games in the division for players aged 12 to 14 years old.
Ateneo A dropped to 3-3 while Ateneo B, which turned back Notre Dame of Greater Manila, 62-58, in overtime, has a 2-2 mark.
Xavier School, meanwhile, nipped another Ateneo A team in the Mini division (9-11 years old), 42-41, to improve to 5-1 in the tournament backed by TaosPuso Foundation and TriDharma Marketing Corp. and organized by MYBall Inc.
In other classes, Ateneo routed Lourdes, 53-22, and Don Bosco Technical Institute, 45-21, and Notre Dame, 41-36.
La Salle Greenhills also continued to lord it over the mini division field with a 5-0 card while Ateneo’s first and second teams in the same age group tote 4-2 and 3-2 slates, respectively.
MYBall, now on its fifth year, and Energen aim to promote youth sports by providing a competitive venue for budding basketball players.
Action resumes next weekend with five teams vying, also at the Blue Eagle Gym.
