CJH out to hike Fil-Am Sr lead

BAGUIO, Philippines  – Camp John Hay resumes its drive for a third straight championship in the centerpiece Seniors Fil-Championship as it sets out in the third round of the Fil-Am Invitational golf tournament at the shorter but trickier Baguio Country Club here today.

The defending champions, with Fred Puckett on the firing end, built an 11-point lead over Manila Southwoods after a second round 128 for a 249 at the John Hay layout. The Carmona-based squad had a 238 after a 120.

ABW Megafiber is in third with a 226 after a second 113.

Meanwhile, Golf F Team slowed down with a 78 but kept a nine-point lead over Club Intramuros in the third round of the Fil B seniors division at the BCC.

Flor Fajilan and Connie Uy scored 22 points apiece as Golf F pooled a three-day total of 264, holding off a charging Club Intramuros, which shot an 82 for a 255.

Pines Golf Club of California South made a 79 for a 237.

Eric Espadero of Summer Capital-East shared the spotlight by scoring an ace at one of the designated holes at BCC and won a round trip ticket for two to Phuket, Thailand.

A bakeshop owner, Espadero used a Titleist 7-iron and a Titleist Pro-V ball at the 152-yard hole for his first ace.    

Golf F Team, meanwhile, remained on course for a double as its Am B squad also stayed on top with one round left in the tournament.

Jun Bucago scored 24 points as Golf F team made a 74 for a 236 as it also posted a nine-point lead over Aloha Golf Team, in Am B Seniors. Aloha pooled a 227 after a 75, while Club Intramuros had a similar 75 for a 219.

Olivo Ramos scored 26 points as NBI Golf Team made a 99 for a three-day total of 289, storming past Square & Compass Golf of Nueva Ecija 2, which faltered with a 79 for a 257.

Cesar Valencirina and Tannie Joson had 25 points each, while Jose Justo Yap added a 23 for the NBI squad.

El Kapitan Golf Team had an 84 to remain at third spot with 245.

Edgardo Cayanga and Jun Tacbanian submitted identical 22s as Square & Compass NE 2 totalled 226 and kept the Am G lead over Wapinoy Golf Team.

With the 16 points of Marlon Hernandez and 15 from Mike Aragon, the team scored 75 points and led Wapinoy by 14.
