MANILA, Philippines - NCAA titlist San Beda goes for a sweep of its group elims when it battles University of Santo Tomas tomorrow while Chiang Kai Shek College and Hope Christian High School seek quarterfinal berths against separate rivals in the Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship at the Chiang Kai Shek College gym in Manila.

Coming off a 77-57 drubbing of Letran that stretched their win run to three, the Red Cubs have been installed the slight favorites over the España-based squad when they collide at 10:30 a.m.

Clashing in the opening game are UAAP titlist Far Eastern University and multi-titled Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association (MMTLBA) champion Xavier School at 9 a.m.

The Hope Christians, bannered by Jollo Go and Clint Doliquez, take on the Letran Squires at 12 noon before the CKSC Dragons and the Ateneo Eaglets cap another four-game bill with a do-or-die match at 1:30 p.m.

UST is actually unbeaten in two games in Group B but is expected to have its hands full against an SBC squad bannered by former Philippine U-18 standout Arvie Tolentino, NCAA Finals MVP Jayvee Mocon, Alejandro Inigo and Ryan Costelo.

Victories by Hope Christians and Chiang Kai Shek College – both sporting 1-1 records – would earn them tickets to the knockout Round-of-8 phase.

Like fellow Tiong Lian campaigners Hope Christian and CKSC, the Xavier Stallions – also with a 1-1 mark in Group A – must hurdle the Eaglets to advance to the next phase of the event sponsored by Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Blackwater Sports, Wrangler, Welcoat House Paints, Ironcon Builders, Dickies Underwear, MEC Networks, and Hapee Toothpaste.

The Stallions will be bannered by Kyles Lao and Jarrell Lim who are 1-2 in league scoring. Lao normed 36 points a game while Lim is averaging 24.5 points.
