FEU, UST XIs score

MANILA, Philippines - FEU and last season’s UAAP runner-up UST-MetroOil scored similar easy victories while La Salle-Flying V needed only two goals to turn back sister school St. Benilde in the 2012 IPPCA Football Pre-Season Cup at the Nuvali Field in Sta. Rosa, Laguna over the weekend.

Striker Arnel Amita scored on the 16th minute then Jesus Melliza racked up three goals to power FEU past guest squad Rizal Technological University and clinch the Seaoil Best Striker of the day honors.

Eric Ben Giganto, Val Jurao and Joshua Mulero also scored a goal each for the Tams, who firmed up their hold of the Group A with three wins in the tournament organized by Filoil Flying V Sports and sponsored by Meralco, Nuvali, Nature’s Spring, Molten, N20 Gastropub, Boysen Paints, BDO, Topcoms/StarSports Korea, Bacchus, CDO San Marino Corned Tuna and Pingping Lechon.

The Tigers, meanwhile, rode on a hat trick by Kenny Ozuka (25th, 41st and 43rd) to crush University of Makati, 7-0, and notch its second straight win for the lead in Group D.

In the only other seniors game in the league sponsored by IPPCA members Chemrez Technologies Inc., Eastern Petroleum Corp., Filpride/USA88, Seaoil Philippines Inc., Flying V, Oilink, Unioil, International Engineer Phils., Inc., Filoil Energy Company, City Oil, Metro Oil Subic, LPGMA, Omni Petroleum Corp, Trans Overseas Industrial Corp. and CIIS, Larson Peter Smit hit the back of the net on the 24th minute and Christian Franklin Uy scored on the 60th as De La Salle-Flying V tied Ateneo-Filoil with 1-0-1 cards.

Aside from Melliza, the other awardees for the day were Dexter Jay Choi of FEU (Flying V Best Defender), Dominic Emamandu of UST (Unioil Best Midfielder), Patrick Dayto of La Salle (Metroil Best Goalkeeper) and St. Benilde (Eastern Fair Play team).

In juniors play, De La Salle-Zobel turned back Arellano, 2-1, while FEU-Fern downed Xavier School, 6-1.
