MANILA, Philippines - Undefeated Filipino boxing prospect Mercito Gesta might get his chance at big-time boxing as he is set to fight IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez in the under of the upcoming Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez fight in Las Vegas.
According to a report by ringtv.com, a fight between Gesta (26-0-1, with 14 KOs) and Vazquez (32-3, with 13 KOs) is close to being finalized and will be held in the undercard of Pacquiao’s fourth fight with Marquez on Dec. 8 (Dec. 9 in Manila) at the MGM Grand.
Gesta’s trainer and manager Vincent Parra is upbeat on his ward’s chances of taking the title from Vazquez.
“We love the challenge Vazquez presents,” Parra told ringtv.com’s Mike Coppinger. “Mercito will be well prepared for this fight. We will make him pay for every mistake.”
Vazquez, for his part, said he welcomes Gesta’s challenge.
