MANILA, Philippines - The Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines and its main backer the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. step up their talent-search as they stage the Mindanao Inter-School Golf Championship Nov. 24-25 at Del Monte Golf Club in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
The tourney is an off-shoot of the ongoing ICTSI-JGFP Inter-School Golf Championships which drew an all-time high field of 280 players from schools in Metro Manila.
“Envisioned as a venue to forge camaraderie among young talents and to bolster their school spirit, the Inter-School tournament has flourished such that more schools have now acknowledged the significance of golf as a varsity sport worth developing in their institutions,” said JGFP president Luigi Tabuena.
Among the schools invited are Abba’s Orchard School, Corpus Christi School, Ateneo de Davao, Brainworks School, Colegio de San Ignacio, Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai Intl. School, Rizal Memorial College, Xavier University Grade School, Lourdes College Basic Education Dept., Corpus Christi School, Oro Christian Grace School, St Mary’s School, Rosevale School, Saint Mary’s Academy, Marywoods Academy and Xavier University High School.
They will vie for honors in six divisions – seniors/boys college, juniors/boys high school, midgets 1/boys grade 5-7, midgets 2/boys grade 2-4, girls 1/girls high school and college and girls 2/girls grade 2-7.
“We are running simultaneous events to accommodate the growing number of future champions that have been nurtured in the event,” said Tabuena.
The Inter-School Series is also supported by the Pancake House Group of Companies, Sizzlin’ Pepper, Pancake House, Golf Depot, Philippine Airlines and Inquirer Golf Monthly.
Adding significance to Del Monte’s hosting is that it is home to many of the country’s past and present golfing stars led by the eminent Frankie Miñoza who himself is supporting the successful junior program of the club.
