Nurse, trainer rule Immuvit trail run

MANILA, Philippines - A military nurse and a personal trainer held their ground under heavy downpour and on slippery pavement and ruled the second leg of the Immuvit Fearless Challenge Trail Run 2012 at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.

Joy Beril Laroa, who works for the Armed Forces as a nurse assigned at the Veterans Hospital in Quezon City, topped the advance male side with a clocking of five minutes, 55 seconds.

Irene Rafil, a physical trainer, ruled the women’s advance division in 5.02, edging Jennifer Cabab (5.18) and Gennybabe dela Cruz (5.49).

The 25-year-old Laroa, a native of Davao City, surprised everyone including early leader Chris Evering, a Fil-foreigner who is a standout for the Philippine Volcanoes or the country’s national rugby team.

“He (Evering) was leading going into the final stretch before I overtook him,” said Laroa, coming off a seventh place finish in the Unilab race and a solid effort in the Rexona 21km event a few days ago.

Evering came in second at 5.57 followed by Nonoy Floresca at third at 6.28.

It’s a meta-fit event featuring challenges including rip 60, tire flips, wiper pushups, tire pull, walking lunges and burpee box conceptualized by Immuvit brand ambassador Jimbo Saret, a United States-certified physical therapist and athletic training specialist.

“We are promoting a lifestyle that combats somatopause, or the metabolism slowdown that typically begins in the late 20s,” said Saret. “The Meta-Fit Challenge is designed to test the fitness levels of participants and compare their physical age versus their biological age.

“The exercise promotes higher metabolism and energy, and even stronger bones,” he added.

Leg Three is set Oct. 6 at Nuvali in Sta. Cruz, Laguna with registration now open online via www.withoutlimits.ph or through selected Chris Sports branches (Mall of Asia, Glorietta 3, SM Manila, SM North Annex) and at Fitness and Athletics located at 9th Ave. corner Bonifacio High Street.
