MANILA, Philippines - A lean Philippine contingent kicks off its campaign in the US Kids Golf World Championships in Pinehurst, North Carolina with two-time world champion Jed Dy spearheading the campaign in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Dy, a returning champion, is the top favorite to romp away with the boys’ 8-years-old title to complete his four-title sweep of the tournaments that he participated in during his 2012 summer golf campaign.
Others seeing action are Samantha Marie Bruce, Sofia Angela Legaspi, Philippe Winsett-Palanca, Christopher Popp, Yuka Saso, Martin Alindogan, Miguel Roque, Francis Lanuza and Annyika Pineda-Cayabyab.
Bruce is the only other returning podium finisher from last year (third in girls’ 10-years-old) and is hopeful to crowd for top honors in a longer course that plays up her advantage as a long hitter.
Legaspi, a consistent top 10 finisher here is also expected to give a good account of herself and post a podium finish.
Cayabyab has been performing well of late and recently won the Veritas World Junior in LA and may pull off a surprise in a division with a smaller field of players.
Popp and Saso are also confident of chances while Palanca, a former US Kids Golf European champion, will always be in contention.
