MANILA, Philippines - Brazilian Renan Barao extended his amazing unbeaten streak to 19 as he came away with a unanimous decision win over American Urijah Faber in the UFC 149 in Calgary in Alberta, Canada yesterday.
It was Barao’s 19th straight victory and 31st overall, including one that was declared a no-contest after losing his first pro fight seven years ago and the interim bantamweight title that should earn him a crack at the title currently held by Dominick Cruz.
Faber, whose constant encouragement led to Fil-Am Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Muñoz decision to turn pro in the mixed martial arts, fell to his sixth defeat against 26 wins.
Barao and Cruz were supposed to meet at UFC 148 but the latter sustained a knee injury during training and was replaced by Faber.
“I was well prepared,” Barao said through an interpreter after the fight.
In the co-main event, Tim Boetsch defeated UFC Hector Lombard via split decision as he boosted his bid in the middleweight division held by Anderson “The Spider” Silva.
