MANILA, Philippines - San Juan City’s Filoil Flying V Arena will celebrate its sixth anniversary with a four-game 88th NCAA basketball offering on Sunday that will also coincide with city’s town fiesta and “Wattah! Wattah! Wattah! San Juan Festival.
“Our vision to become the foremost and most advanced venue in the area has been realized and we like to give that kind of services in the most professional way that we can,” said venue manager Lyn Manansala in a media briefing attended by Mayor Guia Gomez and Vice Mayor Francis Zamora.
The event was also attended by executives from Filoil Flying V, San Miguel Corp., the NCAA, the D-League and the UAAP.
Since its opening, The Arena has been home to several national basketball and non-basketball tournaments like the NCAA, the UAAP, the Shakey’s V-League, Champions League, D-League and Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup, among others.
This year, The Arena will host most the Season 88 NCAA cage games, the junior and women’s basketball matches of the UAAP, the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference next month and several D-League games.
Former President and City Mayor Joseph Estrada had envisioned to build a recreational area for the people of San Juan with then Mayor and now Rep. JV Ejercito, son of the current mayor, completing the project.
