MANILA, Philippines - For the second straight year, motorcycle sports will be included in the calendar of events in the POC-PSC Philippine National Games slated May 26-June 3.
But while majority of the events in the meet will be played in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental, NAMSSA’s motorcycle sports events will be held on separate dates and venues in Metro Manila.
The NAMSSA motorcycle races will kick off with the 2012 POC-PSC PNG Road Race Championship set on May 20 at Parking Lot A of SM Sucat Supermall, Parañaque City.
Over 180 riders are expected to vie for medals and the national titles in over 11 categories based on the machines, skill-level and age of the riders.
The PNG road races will be held in conjunction with the third round of the 2012 Repsol Road Racing Championship.
Now on its second season, the Repsol Road Racing Championship, the flagship event of NAMSSA’s National Road Race Development Program, continues to deliver the NSA’s mandate of tapping and developing the skills level of road race talents from the grassroots in preparation for their participation in various international competitions.
Top riders in the National Road Race Development Program are eventually tapped to compete in international road race events such as the Asia Cup of Road Racing, a continental road race series for underbone riders from the member motorcycle federations of FIM Asia.
The PNG, on the other hand, provides local athletes in the national training pool a viable competition platform to assess their performance and readiness for international competitions. As such, athletes in the national training pool are required by the Philippine Sports Commission to participate in the PNG before they can be issued travel orders for international sporting events.
