San Sebastian eyes No. 2 vs Adamson

MANILA, Philippines - San Sebastian hopes to sustain its opening day romp as it faces fancied Adamson, seeking the early lead in Group B even as three other teams open their respective bids in the Shakey’s V-League ninth season at The Arena in San Juan today.

The Lady Stags, chasing their first crown in nearly four years, swept the Letran Lady Knights in last Tuesday’s opener of the country’s premier women’s volley league but brace for a tougher outing against the Lady Falcons, who boast of talented reinforcements in former MVP Nene Bautista and Angela Benting.

Thai hitter Jang Baulee is expected to raise her game a notch higher in the 6 p.m. main dish of an explosive triple-bill after churning out a 24-point effort against Letran along with Analyn Joy Benito, Dafna Robinos and top setter Rubie de Leon.

For live streaming of the games, log on to www.v-league.ph, according to the organizing Sports Vision.

Focus will also be on University of Santo Tomas, the winningest team in the league with six victories which is making a comeback after a two-year hiatus. Led by former MVP Mary Jean Balse and Thai Kunbang Pornpimol, the Tigresses take on a Letran side out to bounce back from a setback to the SSC squad at 4 p.m.

NCAA champion Perpetual Help, meanwhile, tries to prove its worth early as it plays National U, another team tipped to contend for this year’s crown in the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and backed by Mikasa, Accel and GMA News International.

The match, a Group A encounter, is at 2 p.m.

Bannering the Perpetual Help squad are April Sartin, Sandra delos Santos, Jheck Jheck Dionela, Mae Berba and Janice Abar while NU will be led by the power-hitting Din-Din Santiago and Jen Reyes along with Maricar Nepomuceno, Carmina Aganon and Rialen Sante.

Ateneo seized the early lead in Group A by subduing Far Eastern U in four sets, also last Tuesday and will try to sustain its momentum against NU on Sunday.
