Manguray seeks redemption vs Chope

MANILA, Philippines - Angelito Manguray is out for redemption when he battles Baguio City-based Will Chope in one of the featured fights in the Colt 45 URCC XXI Warpath this weekend at the SMX Convention Center.

Manguray was beaten via submission by Honorio Banario late last year, but the 45-year-old dentist from Davao is back and ready to slug it out with a young fighter.

A crowd favorite in all his five URCC fights, Manguray, 21, has vowed to go all out against Chope, saying: “I’m ready to rumble again.”

Among Manguray’s victims were Jerry Legaspi, Razzi Jabarri, Salvador Domasian and Shane Wiggand – all by technical knockout (TKO).

But against Chope, Manguray needs to work extra hard to prevail in the lightweight tussle of the event presented by Colt 45 and sponsored by Red Bull with Chris Sports, VRP Medical Center , Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Red Box Karaoke and Anzahl as other backers.

Tickets for the fights, according to URCC president and founder Alvin Aguilar, are now available at Ticketworld (891-9999) and SM Tickets (470-2222). First fight starts at 7 p.m.

Chope has fought in mixed martial arts (MMA), winning nine of his 14 fights, including three against URCC fighters. In all his wins, only one went the distance with the rest either being a TKO, KO or by submission.

With his speed, Manguray loves to dart with a kick or punch just when his opponent isn’t expecting it then darts out again to avoid the counterpunch, thus making him very dangerous like the famous Lyoto Machida of UFC.

The Manguray-Chope fight is just one of the highlights of the 10-fight card which has Solar Sports, Pinoy Extreme Channel and Rogue Magazine as media partners.

But focus will be on the Superfight between reigning the reigning URCC light heavyweight champion Nicholas Mann of Australia and middleweight king Froilan Sarenas. Also lined up in the event is the pinweight showdown between Roy Dolinguez and Alvin Ramirez.
