Discovery Channel vertical marathon up

MANILA, Philippines - Buoyed by the success of its initial outing, the Discovery Channel Vertical Marathon holds its second edition on Feb. 12 at the Stamford Executive Residences in McKinley Hill, Taguig.

The centerpiece 10K event again highlights the one-day affair that also features competitions in both 5K and 3K runs, respectively.

Winners of both the male and female 10K run will receive P15,000, while champions in the 5K get P6,000, and 3K titlists P5,000.

Organizers of the meet, whose beneficiary is the WWF Earth Hour 2012, appeared in yesterday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s UN Ave, led by Discover Channel representative to the country Jacque Ruby.

Kakaibang running event ito, since this is not your typical road race,” said Ruby in the session presented by Smart, Pagcor, and Outlast Battery.

Registration is still ongoing until Feb. 5. For the 10K event, registration fee is P1,000, while the 5K and 3K are at P650 and P500, respectively.

Gary Yan, WWF country director to the Philippines, who was also a guest in the forum together with race director Neville Manaois, said the runfest has already been invited for staging in the province of Cebu.

Registration sites include Runnr, ROX, selected Aquabest branches, Skechers (Trinoma, Market Market and Glorietta) or at www.vertical10krun.com.ph.

The inaugural run of the meet was held at the E. Services Bldg in Taguig in Nov. 2010.
