Palanan, DLS-Zobel spikers seek semis berths

MANILA, Philippines - Unbeaten Palanan Elem. School (PES) and De La Salle-Zobel (DLS-Z) take on separate rivals today and tomorrow, respectively, hoping to nail semifinal berths in their respective divisions in the Toby’s Junior Volleyball League at the Toby’s Arena in Pasig City.

PES squares off with Colegio San Agustin (CSA), looking for its fifth straight win and a spot in the crossover semis phase in boys’ Group A which also features the match between St. James College (SJP) and St. Joseph College (SJC).

Elizabeth Seton School (ESS) and Harrel Horne Int’l. School (HHS) kick off hostilities at 10 a.m. with Lourdes School (LSQ) and Xavier School (XAS) tangling next in boys’ Group B action.

ESS and Miriam College (MIC) collide in girls’ B while the Jaguars shoot for their third win in four games against the De La Salle-Canlubang (DLC) side in girls’ Group A matchup in the event sponsored by Toby’s Sports and organized by Metro Sports.

The DLS-Z tossers, meanwhile, go for the first semis seat in girls’ B as they battle the De La Salle-Lipa B (DLB) side at resumption of action tomorrow. DLS-Z totes a 3-0 card and needs just a win against the struggling DLB (1-2) to secure a berth in the next round of the event backed by Shakey’s, Mikasa and Asics.

CSA, on the other hand, shoots for its third straight win, also in girls’ B, against ESS (0-2) while De La Salle-Lipa (DLL) (4-0) guns for at least a playoff for a semis spot against LSQ (1-3) in boys’ B, which also features the ESS (2-2)-Rafael Palma Elem. School (RPS) (3-2).

DLL (2-1) and MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGC) (1-2) clash in the lone girls’ A action in the weekend-only tournament featuring the leading and rising junior volley players.
