Cebu icon keeps regional driver-of-year crown

MANILA, Philippines - Cebu’s motorsports king David Lim was named Philippine Autocross Championship Regional Driver of the Year for the third straight time.

DGL, as he is called in autocross circles, received the award during the Visayas Series awarding ceremony held Dec. 20 at the Club Vudu at the Crossroads.

The Cebuano race icon and team captain of the multi-titled DGL Motorsports Race Team put in a consistent showing in the four legs of the series and earned the overall regional champion’s title for the third consecutive year with 31 points.

Lim’s son David Jr., the 2010 Kartzone series Rookie of the Year, also showed he was ready to compete with the veterans as he finished fourth overall with 21 points and topped the Experienced Modified C and Open A classes. Fellow DGL Motorsports racer Alex Yao of Bacolod, meanwhile, was named 2011 Rookie of the Year.

DGL capped off his yearlong sterling performance by dominating the last leg of the Visayas series held at the Gaisano Bowlingplex parking lot on Nov. 19 and 20. The Visayas series was also held in Bacolod in July. The three other legs were held in Cebu.

DGL Motorsports, supported by Federal Tires, HKS Super Oil, Cebu MMF Glass and Aluminum, The Coriander and Rico’s Lechon, also had successful stints in Manila with a record-setting performance in the Circuit Showdown at the Batangas Racing Circuit on Sept. 3 behind chief tuner Mato Tan. It also ruled the fourth round of the Luzon Philippine Autocross Championship Series (PACS) behind the driving skills of David Lim Jr.
