MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Basketball Association will be donating P1 million to the relief efforts for victims of Typhoon Sendong that killed thousands and left many more homeless in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan in Mindanao.
The PBA Board of Governors ordered the immediate release of the calamity donation exclusively for the relief operations for the flash flood victims with authorization from team owners of the league’s member corporations.
“The entire PBA family – the players and the team owners – is deeply saddened by the tragedy that hit our brothers in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. The PBA will always be responsive to the needs of our less fortunate countrymen,” said PBA commissioner Chito Salud.
On top of its donation, Salud said the PBA has also allotted P100,000 for its partner Gawad Kalinga with the instruction to repair the homes in the Gawad Kalinga Community affected by the calamity.
Some 10,000 houses were reportedly damaged by Typhoon Sendong that hit the region last weekend.
