UPHSD stakes unbeaten slate

MANILA, Philippines - University of Perpetual Help System Dalta shoots for its sixth straight win against St. Benilde at 9 a.m. today in the 87th National Collegiate Athletic Association women’s volleyball tournament at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Adriatico, Manila.

The Lady Altas swept their first five games but were dragged into a five-setter by erstwhile co-leader Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals, 28-26, 25-17, 16-25, 22-25, 15-12, last Saturday.

Against the Lady Blazers, the Lady Altas need to sustain their form with Sandra delos Santos, Honey Rose Tubino and Janice Abar expected to lead the team’s charge.

With a 1-4 card, the Blazers badly need a win to keep their flickering semis hopes alive.

Meanwhile, the Junior Altas seek their second straight win as they tackle the Junior Blazers (0-2) at 8 a.m., while the Altas also gun for their sixth straight victory against the Blazers (1-4) at 10 a.m.

In the other women’s match, the Lyceum Lady Pirates and the Lady Stags, who both tote 2-2 marks, clash at 2 p.m. The Intramuros belles dropped their last game against the Lady Knights, 18-25, 12-25, 19-25.

The Lady Stags, on the other hand, roared back into contention with a 25-14, 25-15, 25-11 victory over the Mapua Lady Cardinals.
