MANILA, Philippines - UAAP runner-up Adamson outlasted Centro Escolar University, 87-79, to open its title campaign in the FCBL Dickies Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare gym in QC last weekend.
Jinky Balasta and Mary Penaranda came through with clutch baskets to ward off the spirited challenge of the NAASCU champions.
Balasta exploded for 24 points while Penaranda scored 21 markers for Adamson which is seeking to win the inaugural event after losing its UAAP crown to Far Eastern U two months ago.
Not to be outdone, the Lady Tamaraws blasted University of the East Lady Warriors, 71-53, in the event backed by Smart, Mang Inasal, Home Depot and Powerhorse.
Also winning their opening day games graced by Dickies Philippines CEO Jose Atienza and Dody Arcaya, Dickies vice president for sales and marketing, were La Salle and Lyceum.
The Lady Archers trounced the UST Tigresses, 69-60, while the Lady Pirates downed the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 50-41.
Peranda was named Dickies Underwear Player of the Game along FEU’s Vangie Soriano (16 points), La Salle’s Hannah Viterbo (15 points) and France Mae Cabinbin.
