Donnie Nietes

One of the country’s few active world champions, Donnie “Ahas” Nietes is currently on a roll, winning his last 16 fights and netting two world titles in the process.

Nietes captured his first world championship in 2007, defeating Thailand’s Pornsawan Porpramook via unanimous decision for the WBO minimumweight crown. He has defended the title four times, even going overseas thrice to stake the crown on his Mexican opponents’ home turf.

Nietes then vacated the crown to move up to light flyweight, outpointing Ramon Garcia Hirales in a close bout last Oct. 8 for the WBO light flyweight title – making him a two-division champion.

He is famous for entering the ring with his pet python, earning him the moniker “Ahas” (Snake). Nietes is one of the world-class fighters of the renowned ALA Boxing Stable.

His professional record is 29-1-3, with 16 knockouts.
