MANILA, Philippines - Vincent Floirendo pounced on Veli-Matti Kaikkonen’s misfortunes to pull off another impressive win in the sixth round of the Yokohama Philippine GT Championship Series and virtually cop the GT Driver of the Year plum at the Clark International Speedway recently.
Floirendo made a sweep of both the Sprint and Main GT Races as Kaikkonen was hounded by problems all day with the former posting the fastest lap-time of 1:47.637 seconds, five seconds faster than the rest of the 14-man field. Running at 123.749 kph, Floirendo quickly pulled ahead and coasted to victory in the 10-lap Sprint Race in 17 minutes and 55.256 seconds.
With still one leg to go, Floirendo has clinched the GT Driver of the Year honors with an insurmountable 280 points total in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and sponsored by official tires Yokohama Philippines, Enersel Forte, official pace car Honda Cars-Caloocan, Rota Wheels, and Racing Beat@Wave89.1FM.
