MANILA, Philippines - More than promoting sports, Season 87 NCAA host University of Perpetual Help System Dalta is keeping the spirit of giving alive.
League president Anthony Tamayo of the host Altas recently gave three scholarship grants to beneficiaries of the Pacquiao Foundation put up by no less than boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao himself.
“We’re giving these scholarship grants to Manny Pacquiao’s foundation to help give unfortunate kids the education they deserve,” said the youthful Tamayo, who along with Pacquiao ushered in Season 87 in Saturday’s opening bash at the Big Dome.
In the kickoff days before the inaugurals, Perpetual Help and the league had already donated some sports and gift items and equipment to unfortunate kids at its campus in the New Bilibid Prison.
Perpetual Help is seeking to win its first general championship since pulling off a back-to-back championship 15 years ago or the same year it last hosted the oldest and one of the most prestigious leagues in the land.
“Of course, our athletes trained and prepared hard for this season, hopefully we could duplicate that feat this season,” said Tamayo.
