Manila, Philippines - After the launching of the Volleyball Integrated Management System, the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) formed the national volleyball team for men and women in preparation for the 26th Southeast Asian Games on Nov. 11-25 in Indonesia.
PVF president Gener Dungo said the women’s squad is composed of 40 percent veteran players and 60 percent freshmen while the men’s team is made up of 30 percent veteran and 70 percent new players.
“Most are young players in both lineups because we’re preparing for the future,” said Dungo, noting the final rosters though are subject to change before the SEA Games to accommodate worthy players, particularly Fil-foreigners.
He said the scouting of Fil-foreign players in the US begins in July after the participation of RP women’s team in the 2011 Asian Women’s Club Championship June 19-25 in Vietnam, with support from the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee and Shakey’s.
“We will only select the best players in terms of performance,” said Dungo. “We are glad that we discovered new talents because of the recent Philippine National Games. I’m so thankful to the PSC for implementing it.”
The women’s team under mentor Sinfronio Acaylay is Cherry Macatangay, Rachel Anne Daquis, Michelle Carolino, Dahlia Cruz, Mary Jean Balse, Suzanne Roces, Janette Doria, Nica Guliman, Pau Soriano, Hezzymei Acuna, Cristina Salak, Marietta Carolino and Patricia Torres.
The men’s team under coach Cesael Delos Santos is Jeffrey Malabanan, Carlo Sebastian Jessie Lopez, Paolo De Ocampo, Edmund Hu, Raffy Mosuela, Nino Jeruz, Dave Tormis, Rex Castro, Rodolfo Labrador, Alnakran Abdilla, Edjet Mabbayad, John Balse and Nestor Molate.
