MANILA, Philippines - Korean expats dominated action in the recent penultimate leg of the ICTSI Jungolf Summer Circuit with Hwang Kang Youl and Cho Byung Kyu leading a 1-2 finish in boys Class A at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club in Laguna.
Youl posted a 54-hole total of 213 to beat Cho by 10 strokes in the 15-17 years category even as four other Koreans topped their respective divisions although most of the local top guns skipped the seventh leg of the series.
Song Seong Hyo took boys Class B, Park Min Ung clinched boys Class C, Joh Eun Na prevailed in girls Class C and Hwang Min Jong emerged the girls Class D winner in the tourney backed chiefly by ICTSI.
The summer circuit which ends at the Ayala Greenfields course is also supported by Philippine Airlines, Teriyaki Boy, Sizzling Pepper, Golf Depot, Chevrolet, Friends of Jungolf, Duty Free, San Miguel Corp., Coca-Cola and Inquirer Golf.
Marvi Monsalve (243) prevented a fifth Korean win when she routed Choi Yeon Hwa (275) for the girls Class A division. It was the most lopsided win in the three-day competitions.
Lawrence Celestino and Kat Borja were the winners in the special division while Ira Alido beat Aidric Chan for the boys Class D trophy.
The Jungolf Foundation of the Philippines, meanwhile, has started the preparations for the country’s bets to various tournaments in the United States topped by the Junior World Championships in San Diego, California.
