MANILA, Philippines - Preparations for the third Quezon City International Marathon (QCIM) scheduled Dec. 4 are now in place as the Executive Runners Club of the Philippines (RUNNEX) staged twin successful launches of a sponsored running clinic and the Discover Running Series last week.
A historic first for Runnex, the Apex-Milo three-month running clinic in cooperation with the Quezon City government is held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at the Quezon Memorial Circle while the Discover the Joy of Running Series in coordination with the University of the Philippines College of Human Kinetics is held every Sunday at UP and supported by Herbalife, Accel and Manila Water.
The holding of the clinics coincided with the launching by Pres. P-Noy of the national campaign of the Department of Health to promote “Ehersiyo Pangkalusugan Para Sa Lahat 2011”.
Runnex president Danny Villavicencio said their current program has energized the club’s mission of promoting running as a way to a healthy lifestyle. Runnex has been promoting exercise through running as a way to a healthier life for the past 28 years.
Club chairman Rudy Fernandez added that the running clinics will help prepare the participants particularly those who are joining the 21K and 42K races in the third QCIM.
Part of the advocacy of the event this year is the promotion of road safety as the club’s contribution to the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020. Fernandez said part of the proceeds of the run will go to the putting up of road safety billboards along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City’s longest and the country’s widest highway.
