Adamson, Marikina rule softball tourney

Manila, Philippines - Adamson U bested Manila while MS Marikina edged Philippine Air Force to capture the women’s and men’s titles, respectively, in the Cebuana Lhuillier-Chooks To Go Summer Grandslam Softball Invitational Championships in La Trinidad, Benguet recently.

Veronica Belleza of Adamson and Marikina pitcher Leo Barredo also copped the MVP honors in their respective divisions to lead the list of awardees that included Rizza Bernardo of Manila (best pitcher), Annalee Benjamin of Adamson (best hitter), Adamson’s Luzviminda Embudo (best slugger), Manila’s Marlyn Francisco (most RBIs) and Marissa dela Cruz of Adamson (most number of stolen bases).

Joining Barredo in the roster of winners in the men’s side were Romeo Bumagat of Philippine Air Force (most RBI’s and most number of home runs), Marikina’s Mark Rae Ramirez (best slugger) andJake Ilao (most number of stolen bases).

Asaphil president Jean Henri Lhuillier lauded the local organizers and the provincial government of Benguet, led by Gov. Nestor Fongwan for the successful staging of the event.

“We are certainly happy at the turn-out and outcome of this event, a lot of provincial and local teams participated and our national coaching staff should be able to identify some talents we can bring to the training pool of Asaphil,” said Lhuillier.

The week-long tournament was sponsored by Pera Padala, Just Jewels, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions, Le Soleil de Boracay and Phiten.
