MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Meralco-Quezon City and Rain or Shine-San Juan swept their respective groups to advance to the cross-over semifinals of the Batang PBA Summer League at the Club 650 gym yesterday.
Gian Mamuyac scored 15 of his game-high 21 points in the opening quarter as the Batang Bolts took control early on the way to their fourth consecutive win in Group B with a 79-37 rout of B-Meg Derby Ace-Marikina (2-2).
Rain or Shine-San Juan won by default against Barako Bull-San Pedro (0-4) to top Group A.
Meralco-QC, aiming for a fifth consecutive championship in the 9-12 years old tournament, will face Petron Blaze-Manila in the next round.
Petron Blaze-Manila (2-2) bowed to Barangay Ginebra-Caloocan, 52-55, to close out its elims assignment for a 2-2 card. But it clinched the No. 2 spot in Group A with higher quotient over the Batang Kings and the Batang Powerade Tigers, who also wound up with 2-2 slates.
ROS-San Juan will battle Talk N’ Text Taytay in the other knockout
semis. The Batang Tropang Texters also wound up tied with Air
21-Las Pinas and B-Meg derby Ace-Marikina at 2-2 but took the No. 2 berth in Group B with a superior quotient.
The semis will be played on May 25 with the finals set on May 27. Both games will be held at the San Juan gym.
