MANILA, Philippines - Multi-awarded Yokohama-Castrol driver Carlos Anton was conferred the Driver of the Year award in the field of Hillclimb racing recently in the prestigious 2011 annual Automobile Association of the Philippines Awards Night.
Anton, the Baguio-native backed up by Yokohama, Castrol, Hornitex, Autoshack, Home outlet, and Sizzling Plate, holds the rare distinction as one of the few racing drivers from various racing disciplines in the country to be feted by the AAP which is the local governing body for motorsports affiliated with the Federation Internationale de Automobile (FIA).
Furthermore, it’s also Anton’s “King of the Hill” award for the fourth year in a row.
“It’s a great trophy to share with the city of Baguio where I believe the best drivers should come from given its natural terrain for hillclimb racing,” Anton said after receiving the award.
Anton used the Mark Young-Hornitex-prepared Honda CRX with a 200-horsepower Mohspeed B20 engine and fitted with Yokohama A050 rubber to sweep the series last year.
“You can’t win a championship without a good team and top caliber sponsors behind you,” Anton said.
The 2011 Hillclimb Championship begins June 19 in the Hills of La Union where Anton will try to go for a record fifth title.
